My work is a visual investigation into the environment around us, focusing mainly in the north. It is an attempt to recreate the atmosphere and feeling for a particular place rather than just a visual representation.Lately my work has been shifting to a more industrial based area, tying in with my limited 'rusty' palette. A study into what was once thriving economic communities, often now just rusting relics of a bye-gone age. Most of the work is based around my home city of Hull, a city that has recieved more than its fair share of economic downturn. Its rugged decaying character transfering to the canvas before the apartment blocks and cafe bars swallow these once buzzing and clattering landscapes for ever.I was born in Beverley, East Yorkshire in 1977 and began painting and drawing as soon as I could pick up a brush. Originally heading towards a more illustration based career, I studied graphic design at York College before turning to fine art and abstract landscape painting inparticular.
